From Field to Table: Squirrel Dumplings

   

 

 

 

 

Josh Williams from Water Swatters is an expert hunter of any kind of game, but in particular, he has taken down countless squirrels with his Mini Striker forward limb pistol crossbow. Not wasting any opportunity for a good meal, Josh turns his backyard hunt into a delicacy: Squirrel Dumplings

Check out his delicious recipe below!

Ingredients:

 Squirrel seasoning:

3 small or 2 large squirrels

1 tsp of salt

8 cups of water

½ stick of butter

16 oz of heavy whipping cream

Dumplings:

2 cups sifted all purpose flour

4 tsp baking powder

1 tsp of salt

1 cup of milk

4 tbsp canola oil

Directions:

  1. Boil squirrels until meat will pick off the bones.
  2. Remove and debone squirrels.
  3. Strain stock and return 6 cups to the pot.
  4. Add salt, butter and whipping cream.
  5. Bring to a boil.
  6. Return squirrel meat to pot.
  7. While squirrels are boiling mix dumplings ingredients into a dough.
  8. Pinch pieces of dough off and drop into the boiling pot.
  9. Reduce heat and let simmer for 15 minutes. Don’t stir.
  10. Enjoy!
